ITYT: Major takeaways from Steve Sarkisian's Thursday availability
In the latest LIVE on the Inside Texas YouTube channel, Joe Cook and Ian Boyd offer their reaction to what Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisan discussed during his Thursday press conference.

Boyd and Cook go over what Sarkisian said about the season-ending injury suffered by CJ Baxter. Sarkisian was effusive in his praise of Baxter, both the player and the teammate. He also looked toward what Jaydon Blue, Tre Wisner, Jerrick Gibson, and Christian Clark might provide. If there was a 1A/1B situation before Baxter’s injury, Blue is now the 1 and the task becomes finding the 2. The two evaluate the entire RB room now that the Longhorns have to utilize them in the 2024 season.
The next topic is Texas’ Saturday scrimmage, the first of the preseason for the Longhorns. Sarkisian mentioned they will do this without coaches literally on the field offering immediate corrections, and how that will extend not just from the starters but all the way to fourth-string guys. Boyd and Cook evaluate what Sarkisian said he’s looking for, plus details they want to hear about on Saturday.
Finally, the two get into a conversation about Sarkisian’s thoughts on player availability reports. Sarkisian has said he is in support of proposed availability reports that has players listed as questionable, doubtful or out ahead of a game. Boyd and Cook dive into that topic and the implications it might have across college football.
