Townsend, who committed to Texas over Alabama, USC and Texas A&M, brings a versatile piece to the Longhorn offense. Eric noted his physicality and toughness, and even mentions his ability to play on defense if needed.
What’s next at the tight end position is the next topic. Texas now has Townsend and Calhoun (Ga.) three-star Emaree Winston in the Class of 2025. The TE position room just added a major upgrade on Monday and one that fits a variety of needs.
Texas tight end coach Jeff Banks put in a ton of work on the Houston area product, thwarting the efforts of the Crimson Tide and Aggies. The Horns prioritized Townsend ever since his Junior Day visit to Austin last January. That followed with a strong official visit in June and culminated in his verbal pledge to the Longhorns today.
