Texas tight end Jack Endries was named to the John Mackey Award watch list, the Nassau County Sports Commission announced Friday. The Mackey is given annually to college football’s outstanding tight end. Endries was named to the Biletnikoff watch list earlier in the week.

The Longhorns have never had a Mackey Award winner. Last season, Gunnar Helm was a semifinalist for the honor. Penn State’s Tyler Warren won the award in 2024.

Endries, a transfer from Cal who arrives at Texas as a junior, caught 56 passes for 623 yards and two touchdowns last year for the Golden Bears. In 2023, Endries hauled in 35 receptions for 407 yards and two touchdowns. He started his career as a walk-on and redshirted during the 2022 season. He was an honorable mention All-ACC selection in 2024 and earned multiple freshman All-America honors in 2023.

“Jack Endries gives us a proven pass receiver and then he gives us a physical blocker in the box that’s not necessarily the biggest guy,” Texas tight ends coach Jeff Banks said last week. “That’s what we were looking for in the transfer portal. (A guy) that could mesh with our team and fit our offense. When we saw him play at Cal, he was sliding back, he was inserting, he was doing a lot of things that we do in the run game. Then you see him vertically get past defenders, and you’re like ‘sweet, we’ve got a big time pass receiver that can block.”

The Mackey will be presented at the 2025 Home Depot College Football Awards show in December.
