Jake Majors announced as Campbell Trophy Finalist

Texas football senior center Jake Majors was selected as a finalist for the 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation announced Wednesday. The Campbell Trophy is a scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.

The 16 finalists will each receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2024 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The 16 finalists were selected from a record number of 204 semifinalists nationwide from among all NCAA divisions and the NAIA.

Majors is the 13th Longhorn to be named an NFF Scholar-Athlete and finalist for the award, and Texas has had two previous winners of the Campbell Trophy in center Dallas Griffin (2007) and defensive end Sam Acho (2010).

In addition to being named a finalist for the Campbell Trophy, Majors is one of 20 semifinalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award, which was announced Tuesday.

Majors, a four-year starter with 48 career starts under his belt, completed his bachelor’s in business management from the prestigious McCombs Scholl of Business at UT with a 3.65 cumulative GPA in May 2023. He was named the Outland Trophy’s National Player of the Week on Sept. 9 following Texas’ 31-12 road win at No. 10/9 Michigan. Majors also earned SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week honors following UT’s win at Michigan.

Prior to the 2024 season, Majors was tabbed to the Rimington Trophy watch list, which is awarded annually to the nation’s top center in college football. This season, Majors has been the center of an offense that ranks and 15th in total offense (461.9 ypg) and 17th in the nation in scoring offense (39.1 ppg). The Horns also rank 13th in completion percentage (68 percent) and 16th in passing offense (295.7 ypg). As a group, the Texas offensive line is on this year’s Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll after being named semifinalists last year.

The Propser, Texas, native was named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Second Team and is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection. He’s a seven-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and earned a spot on the 2020-21 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team. Majors has made the 15th-most starts (48) in Texas Football program history and the sixth amongst Longhorn offensive linemen.

Majors has been a member of the Texas’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for three years and is an active member of the Silver Spurs, which is an honorary service organization that seeks to provide a transformative learning experience that empowers students to become agents of positive change in their communities. The group also is responsible for transporting and handling BEVO – Texas’ official mascot. He has been an active member of community service with both organizations and with the team.

He has volunteered as a dry foods packer at Hungry Souls, which is a non-profit that partners with schools to provide weekend and school break meals for students and their families; at Mobile Loaves & Fishes, which is a social outreach ministry to help the homeless; at Pop-Up Birthday, a non-profit that throws birthday parties for foster children; at Side by Side Kids, a non-profit faith-based after school program that helps the economically disadvantaged in Austin; at Dell Children’s Medical Center, spending time with patients; at Camp in Motion as part of Dell Children’s Foundation; at the Salvation Army participating in outdoor activities with children; at Rise School Austin for early education doing maintenance; at the Arc of the Capital that assists people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and has spoken at elementary schools.

The Campbell Trophy finalists will travel to the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 10, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Following the 66th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas, the recipient of the 2024 Campbell Trophy will be honored at several other prestigious events. On Thursday, Dec. 12, he will be interviewed live during the “The Home Depot College Football Awards” on ESPN. Then on Monday, Dec. 16, a reception will be held in his honor at the New York Athletic Club (NYAC), the official home of the trophy since 2013.

Majors and Texas hit the road to No. 25/25 Vanderbilt for a 3:15 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday, Oct. 26, at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville. The game will air on SEC Network with Tom Hart (play-by-play), Cole Cubelic (analyst) and Alyssa Lang (sideline) on the call.
