Jaylan Ford named Big 12 defensive player of the week
After making two critical defensive plays in the Longhorns’ 24-21 win over Iowa State, Texas linebacker Jaylan Ford was named the Big 12’s defensive player of the week by the conference on Monday.

Ford intercepted Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers in the second quarter of Saturday’s game, fielding the pass in the end zone and stopping a Cyclone drive in its tracks. The pick was the first of his career. Later in the game in the fourth quarter, Ford recovered a Dekkers fumble jarred loose by Anthony Cook that set up the game-sealing drive for the Longhorns. It was his first career fumble recovery as well.
His interception and fumble recovery were part of an eight-tackle performance. It was the first time a Texas player intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble in a single game since DeMarvion Overshown accomplished the feat in the 2020 Alamo Bowl.
