J'mond Tapp commits to Texas
Texas landed a commitment late Monday night from 2022 Donaldsonville (La.) Ascension Catholic DE J’mond Tapp, defeating 18 other schools for Tapp’s services including Alabama, Baylor, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M.
Tapp, a 6-foot-3, 250-pounder, is ranked as the No. 152 player in the On3 2022 rankings.
He competed in the 200m, 400m, shot put, and 4×400 relay for Ascension Catholic in 2021, timing a 24.92 in the 200m and a 59.28 in the 400m. He threw the shot 46 feet 9.5 inches at the LHSAA 1A state meet. He is the second commit of the day, joining Marlin’s Jaray Bledsoe.
Insight on the Tapp commitment from Eric Nahlin:
He reached out to IT last night and we got to talking. He said he wasn’t close to announcing, but that he wanted to be a silent commit to Texas. Texas said a silent commit isn’t a real commit and if he wanted to commit it would have to be public.

We’ll monitor this one closely as he still hears from Alabama and LSU.
You may recall in the Scoop we mentioned Tapp was more likely than Justice Finkley. The staff almost assuredly got a Bama vibe from Finkley and went all in on Tapp. Well done.
