“We’re heartbroken for Jonathon,” said Sarkisian. “He was having a fantastic season and leaves a void that needs to be filled. But we know he will continue to be an invaluable leader on our team, helping us prepare as we move forward in our mission this season. I know he’ll work extremely hard in his recovery, get back to full speed as soon as he can, and we will be there by his side supporting him through all of that.”

Brooks, a third-year player out of Hallettsville, Texas, left the Longhorns’ game with TCU after his 21st carry put him over the 100-yard mark. Brooks rushed 21 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns, and added three catches for 74 yards versus the Horned Frogs.

Brooks was a frontrunner for the Doak Walker Award, having gone over 98 yards rushing in eight consecutive games. For the season, Brooks has 1139 yards on 187 carries, good for 6.1 yards per tote. He’s scored 10 touchdowns on the ground and one through the air for 11 total. He also earned several midseason honors, including being named an AP midseason first-team All-American.

The Longhorns will look for production from CJ Baxter in Brooks’ absence. Baxter, a true freshman from Orlando, Fla., earned the start in the first two games of Texas’ season. Baxter has 87 carries for 390 yards and three scores this season. Versus TCU, Baxter tallied 18 carries for 61 yards.
