JUCO OL Willie Tyler commits to Texas
The nation’s top three rated 2019 class wasn’t quite finished yet.
Texas decided to offer Iowa Western CC offensive lineman Willie Tyler at the end of February. UT became the easy choice for Tyler among interest from Louisiana Tech, West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Miami, as he verbally pledged to the Longhorns today.
The 6-foot-7 three-star prospect from Racine, Wisconsin was a late bloomer that wound up at Iowa Western for one season. Since he’s graduating in May, he’ll be set to enroll in Austin in June.
This comes on the heels of Texas and Herb Hand landing Georgia Tech grad transfer Parker Braun yesterday. The Texas offensive line coach, Hand, continues to thrive in his role on the 40 Acres.

Excerpt from the Recruiting Notebook:
How he fits at Texas: Tyler is massive at 6-7, 330 pounds. With all of that size the game often comes down to getting in the way and then there’s not much opponents can do. Tyler really leans into his size advantages as well, preferring to grab guys from the outside and hold them in place while the play develops. His development at Texas will depend mostly on his work ethic and mastery of finer techniques, the athleticism is there to allow his size and power to eventually translate to tackle. He might become a left tackle in time but the distance to right tackle is certainly shorter for him. – Ian Boyd
Tyler is the 25th member of Texas’ 2019 class joining Bru McCoy (Mater Dei – CA), Isaiah Hookfin (Dulles), Kennedy Lewis (Melissa), Caleb Johnson (Fullerton College – CA), Jacoby Jones (Butler C.C. – MO), Myron Warren (Many – LA), Marcus Washington (Trinity Catholic – MO), David Gbenda (Cinco Ranch), Tyler Owens (Plano East), Derrian Brown (Buford – GA), Javonne Shepherd (North Forest), Marcus Tillman (Jones – FL), Marques Caldwell (Alvin), Chris Adimora (Lakewood – CA), Peter Mpagi (George Ranch), Jake Smith (Notre Dame Prep – AZ), Jared Wiley (Temple), Tyler Johnson (Conroe Oak Ridge), Brayden Liebrock (Chandler – AZ), Kenyatta Watson II (Grayson – GA), De’Gabriel Floyd (Westlake – CA), Jordan Whittington (Cuero), T’Vondre Sweat (Huntsville), and Roschon Johnson (Port Neches-Groves).
