I just finished watching the game for my post-mortems (coming soon) and the number of times that Kelvin Banks jumped off of the screen was notable. He merits his own thread of appreciation.

You heard a lot about the Sooners pass rush coming into the game, particularly Sooner edges R Mason Thomas and Trace Ford. Thomas might want to change his name to R U Even On The Field and there was no trace of Ford to be found.

Banks surrendered zero pressures, no sacks and no QB hits on 35 pass blocking snaps.

Beyond the grades, I couldn’t find find a single instance of an OU edge mounting a successful pass rush against him.

It extended to the run game. Texas was particularly effective running zone blocking concepts in Dallas against OU’s stunts.

Banks was a big reason why.

Here are two examples of where No. 78’s dominant run blocking allowed long Texas touchdown runs:

Feet, feet, feet. Banks has ’em. Watch what Banks does to No. 40 Ethan Downs on this play. Downs is stunting inside to blow up the interior and the quick-footed Banks takes him waaaay further than he wants to go and gets the knockdown. 320-pound offensive tackles don’t move like that.

Hat tip to Jake Majors doing a hell of a job on the nose tackle, too. Huge cutback lane.

Quintrevion Wisner does the rest, running over a paralyzed Robert Spears-Jennings.

The next clip earned Silas Bolden a lot of praise for his hustle, but please watch Big Kelvin spring this run.

Banks has Sooner nose tackle Damonic Williams lined up outside in a shaded 5 technique on an outside run. Williams has dominant position by alignment and his NIL check says that he’s elite!

Tough draw for Kelvin, right?

Banks reaches Williams, drives him three yards down the field and makes him turn his shoulders to the sideline. Dominated him.

He’s not done.

Then he pushes up and screens off the pursuing linebackers Danny Stutsman and Kip Lewis.

That allows Conner to climb and seal another OU DB.

Banks exorcised Williams at the point of attack, screened off two in pursuit and effectively blocked three Sooners.
