The award followed recognition for Banks for spots on the Freshman All-American by The Athletic and ESPN’s True Freshman All-America team. Banks was also a semifinalist for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award and earned second-team All-Big 12 mention by both the conference’s coaches and the Associated Press.

Banks, who is from Humble, also earned Big 12 honorable mention for both Offensive Lineman of the Year and Offensive Freshman of the Year.

Banks started all 13 games for the Longhorns in their 8-5 campaign that ended in the Valero Alamo Bowl. He was a cornerstone for the Texas offense that averaged 34.5 points and 429.5 yards per game, ranking 17th and 23rd, respectively, among Power 5 teams.

Banks is the most recent of 15 Texas players named to the FWAA Freshman All-American honor roll and the first since Xavier Worthy in 2021.
