Kelvin Banks named to the AP preseason All-America first team

Texas left tackle Kelvin Banks was named a first-team preseason All-American by the Associated Press on Monday. Banks was one of 10 first-team selections from the Southeastern Conference. He was the only Longhorn to earn the distinction.

Banks, a junior from Humble (Texas) Summer Creek, was selected along with LSU’s Will Campbell as first-team tackles.

Banks was a second-team All-American last year as selected by the AFCA. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection according to the league’s coaches. The AP had Banks as a second-team All-Big 12 selection. He was also named preseason first-team All-SEC and to the 2024 Outland Trophy preseason watch list.

Banks has played and started all 27 possible games at left tackle since arriving on the 40 Acres in the summer of 2022. According to Pro Football Focus, Banks graded out at 76.5 on offense, 86.8 in pass blocking, and 70.0 in run blocking. His 86.8 pass blocking grade ranked No. 11 among all FBS tackles in 2023.
