Kelvin Banks wins the Lombardi Award
Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks was named the winner of the Lombardi Award on Wednesday by the Rotary Club of Houston. Banks is the fourth Longhorn to win the award that honors the “outstanding college football Lineman, whether on offense or defense, who displays exceptional performance and ability and embodies the character and discipline that Vince Lombardi championed throughout his life.”

Banks joins Kenneth Sims, Tony Degrate, and Brian Orakpo as winners of the honor. Banks also won the SEC’s Jacobs Blocking Trophy for offensive lineman of the year and was named a first-team All-SEC selection this week.
Banks, a junior from Humble (Texas) Summer Creek, started all 12 games in the regular season and missed his first career game on Saturday in the SEC Championship game. That broke a streak of 39 straight starts for Banks that began with the first game of his true freshman year.
Banks has been a constant presence on Quinn Ewers’ blindside over the course of the past three seasons. He could also make it back-to-back Outland Trophy winners for the Longhorns if he can follow up with the award after T’Vondre Sweat took it home in 2023.

One of the best linemen in school history, Banks has a chance to become the first Longhorn offensive lineman taken in the first round of the NFL Draft since the Buffalo Bills selected Mike Williams with the fourth overall pick in 2002.
