Coburn made use of the four-game redshirt rule in the 2018 season. He played in three games with appearances versus West Virginia, Kansas, and in the Sugar Bowl versus Georgia.
Coburn was one of the top defensive line prospects in Texas in the 2018 class. During the first year of the early signing period, Coburn elected not to sign early and took his recruitment all the way to the second national signing day. While TCU and Miami sought to undo Coburn’s commitment, he stuck with the Longhorns and joined the 2018 class.
The NFL combine saw Coburn record a 5.22 40-yard-dash, vertical jump 27.5 inches, and post 24 reps on the bench press.
Coburn was ranked as the No. 111 overall prospect, the No. 17 defensive lineman, and the No. 10 prospect in Texas according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He is the fourth Longhorn to be picked in the 2023 NFL draft, joining Bijan Robinson, DeMarvion Overshown, and Roschon Johnson.
