Last year, the Longhorns and the then-No. 1 Crimson Tide played at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin. The game was televised by Fox, who elected to place the matchup between two of college football’s storied programs into the 11 a.m. Central timeslot to be a part of its Big Noon Kickoff programming.
Both ESPN and Fox brought their respective pregame shows to Austin for the game.
The Crimson Tide defeated the Longhorns 20-19 thanks to a final drive led by 2021 Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young. UT quarterback Quinn Ewers had a sizzling start to the contest before he injured his throwing shoulder late in the first quarter. Jase McClellan and Jahmyr Gibbs scored touchdowns for Alabama, while Bijan Robinson notched the only six-point score for the Longhorns. The rest of UT’s points were added by Bert Auburn, including a go-ahead 49-yard field goal with 2:26 left. Tide kicker Will Reichard hit the game-winning 33-yarder with 10 seconds left to place the game at its final tally.
