The Sooners won the 2019 edition of the rivalry, 34-27. Texas accumulated only 310 total yards, but forced two turnovers. Jalen Hurts topped Sam Ehlinger, with the current Philadelphia Eagle connecting on 16-of-28 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He also added 131 yards on the ground.
Ehlinger rushed for two touchdowns but had a meager 210 yards through the air.
In 2020, Texas staged a wild fourth-quarter comeback after trailing by as much as 14. The game was pushed to overtime but the Sooners won out in a wild 53-45 contest. Each team turned the ball over three times and committed double-digit penalties.
2021’s contest was just as wild but ended with a similar result. Texas led 28-7 after the first quarter, but the Sooners would score 48 points in the last three quarters, including 25 in the fourth, to win another Red River Shootout. OU running back Kennedy Brooks scored the game-winning touchdown on a 33-yard run with three seconds left on the clock.
The 2022 edition will once again be held at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.
