Texas makes a stop, but not without some suspense

Texas prevents the Wildcats from making much progress, but a Silas Bolden muffed punt makes things interesting. He jumps on top of his own fumble to give the Longhorns the ball on their own 14 with 11:32 left in the game.

Plays from Wisner, Helm set up an opportunity at the start of the fourth quarter

The Longhorns are driving near the end of the third quarter, but they cannot do anything with it as Texas misses a 47-yarder at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Quinn Ewers throws a pick-six

Quinn Ewers awkwardly throws the ball forward under pressure and Jamon Dumas-Johnson hauls it in and returns it 25 yards for a score to make it 24-14. 2:41 remains in the third quarter.

Jaydon Blue fumbles, Kentucky misses a field goal

The Longhorn running back fumbles yet again and the Kentucky Wildcats recover on the Texas 32. Cutter Boley converts a pass to make it first and goal for UK on the first play after the fumble. After that, the Longhorn defense holds and Kentucky kicker Alex Raynor misses a 33-yarder to keep the game at 24-7 Texas with 3:40 left in the third quarter.

Despite the short field, Kentucky is stuffed in Texas territory

Jermayne Lole and Alfred Collins make a stop on 4th and 1 after the Wildcats drove 19 yards to give the Longhorns the ball. Texas will start on its own 25 for the second Longhorn possession of the second half.

Texas goes three-and-out after the Wildcat punt

Michael Kern punts it 43 yards and Maclin returns it 14 yards to the Texas 43.

A quarterback switch for Kentucky

Cutter Boley enters the game at QB for the Wildcats. He hits a 43-yard pass to Barrion Brown on the first series of the second half to get near Texas territory, but a holding penalty on 3rd down erases a big gain and sets up a 3rd and long. After the penalty, Texas stuffs the Wildcats near midfield.

Halftime: Texas 24, Kentucky 7

Texas hits a field goal just before halftime

The Longhorns go 40 yards in eight plays, setting up a Bert Auburn field goal from 49 yards away. No. 45 splits the uprights to make it 24-7 with 10 seconds left in the half.

Kentucky can’t do anything after the Longhorns’ score

The Wildcats go three-and-out, capped by a sack split between Ty’Anthony Smith and Barryn Sorrell. Texas takes over on the minus-29 with 1:40 left.

Gunnar Helm scores a 17-yard touchdown after a sudden change

Texas goes 34 yards in four plays, with the last 17 yards the result of a Ewers to Helm touchdown pass. 21-7 Texas 3:12 2Q.

Jelani McDonald makes an incredible play

The Wildcats drive a handful of plays but Jelani McDonald makes one of the best plays of the year in order to record an interception and give the Longhorns the ball at the Kentucky 34.

Texas marches down the field, scores a touchdown on a Jaydon Blue rush

Thanks to a penalty from Maxwell Hairston and just enough ball security from Jaydon Blue, the Longhorns march down for a 11 play, 65 yard, 4:57 drive to make it 14-7 Texas.

On a 3rd and 4…

Ja’Mori Maclin hauls in a reception and scampers for a 42-yard gain to put the Wildcats at the Texas 12. Two plays later on 3rd and 1, Demie Sumo-Karngbay fumbles to set up a 4th and 1. Brock Vandagriff then finds Josh Kattus on a 4-yard TD to make it a 7-7 game.

After one quarter

Texas’ drive stalls at midfield after several penalties

The Longhorns had two penalties stall out their drive, though an uncalled pass interference on a throw intended for Ryan Wingo was one of the biggest impacts of Texas’ drive. Michael Kern’s punt is returned to the Kentucky 27.

Texas forces a three-and-out after the fourth down stop

The Longhorns deal with Kentucky gaining the ball on their own their own 31 and make a great stop. A punt from the Wildcats goes through the end zone and the Longhorns will take over on their 25 after a penalty.

Texas works the ball down the field, turns the ball over on downs

Thanks to Ewers, Golden, Jaydon Blue, Texas accumulates several first downs but gets into a 4th and 1 on the Kentucky 31. Ewers drops back on a play-action but the Wildcats defend the play well and force the turnover on downs.

Texas gives up one first down, but forces the UK punt team to take the field

Jamarion Wilcox picks up one first down but the Longhorn defense holds up after that thanks to a number of negative plays. Texas takes over on its own 16 after a 43-yard punt by Aidan Laros.

Texas drives down the field, makes it 7-0 on a Ewers to Helm TD pass.

Despite a 3rd and 11 on the opening series, Ewers completes a pass to Matthew Golden to move the chains. Another pass from Ewers to Golden results in a first down and puts Texas into UK territory. Golden hauls in another pass, his third reception, on a RPO to go inside the red zone. The Longhorns get to 4th down inside the Kentucky five yard-line, but Ewers finds Gunnar Helm for a touchdown to make it 7-0 with 10:00 left in the first quarter.
