LIVE UPDATES: No. 20 Texas battles No. 12 Washington in the Alamo Bowl

SAN ANTONIO — The Texas Longhorns are bowling once again. Steve Sarkisian’s team will battle the No. 12 Washington Huskies in the Valero Alamo Bowl at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

Fourth quarter

Washington eventually reaches goal-to-go. Penix Jr. finds McMillan for a score. 27-10 UW 13:08

Texas starts on the 26, and picks up a first down via a completion to Whittington. Worthy then hauls in a pass for another first down. Facing a third down, Ewers finds Whittington for another move the chains reception inside the 30. Gunnar Helm then catches a pass over the middle to make it goal to go. Brooks then rumbles into the end zone for a score. 27-17 UW 9:50

UW faces another third down opportunity and picks up the first down with a pass to Polk. Tualapapa picks up a first down as Washington gets close to the 50. Facing 3rd and 9 after Terrance Brooks just missed an interception, Penix finds McMillan for a third down conversion as the clock dips under six minutes. With 4:26 left, Washington fails to convert a third down. Washington fails to convert 4th and 11.

Texas then picks up a first down with a handful of quick passes. Another pass to Casey Cain puts Texas inside the Washington 25. Ewers then uses his legs to get to the 15. The drive stalls and Bert Auburn makes a 25-yarder. 27-20 UW 1:40

Bert Auburn’s onside attempt is recovered by Washington. The Huskies don’t gain anything on their first play and Texas calls a timeout. Huskies gain a handful and Texas calls a timeout. Huskies make it to the Longhorn 41 and will have to punt.

30 seconds remain. Texas does not score.

Third quarter

Texas gets the ball to start the second half. Ewers finds Whittington to start the second half. Then on third and short, Ewers finds Worthy over the middle for a 21-yard gain into Washington territory. A holding sets things back, but Ewers finds Brooks on a screen play for a 34-yard score. 13-10 UW 12:31

Washington starts on the 25. They convert a third-down opportunity that replay overturns. Washington’s offense is on the field on fourth down, and they convert with a sneak. Washington faces 3rd and 6, and converts with a pass over the middle. The Huskies convert on third down again. Huskies move into goal-to-go, and score on a passing play from Penix to Taj Davis. 20-10 UW 6:44

Ewers hits Robinson for a quick pass for a first down to start the drive. A penalty puts Texas behinds the chains, and the Longhorns almost pick it up and more but a Ewers pass that hits Worthy in the hands falls to the ground. It happens on back to back plays. Texas punts, and Washington takes over on the 10.

Field position is no problem for Washington as they quickly move to the 45. Washington gets to a fourth and short opportunity needing to make it to the opposite 45, and they convert. Huskies pick up another first down as the quarter ends.

Second quarter

On the other side of the break, Texas faces a 4th and 1. Ewers looks for Worthy on a slant but it falls incomplete.

Penix looks deep on 3rd and 14 but Anthony Cook gets credit for a pass breakup. Longhorns take over on their own 17. Texas gains 9.5 out of 10 yards but elects to punt.

Washington takes over on its own 30. They pick up a first down but a tackle by Jahdae Barron on a 3rd down play brings on the UW punt team.

Texas starts on the 25. A dump-off pass to Ja’Tavion Sanders puts the Longhorns near midfield after a long run. Texas gets to third down and a quick pass from Ewers to Whittington bounces off No. 4’s hands. Trejo punts and it bounces into the end zone for a touchback.

Washington takes over on the 25. Texas forces a third and short but Penix finds Odunze for a first down at the 38. Tualapapa nets another first down with a run. On 3rd and 6 just on Texas’ side of the 50, Tualapapa reaches just across the line to gain with a run. Penix moves the ball inside the red zone with another completion to Odunze.

Texas’ defense holds in the tight red zone. Washington attempts a field goal as the half expires. 13-3 UW

First quarter

Captains: Jordan Whittington, Jaylan Ford, Keondre Coburn, Keilan Robinson

Texas calls tails. It is tails. Texas defers.

Washington starts on the 25. A 35 yard pass from Michael Penix to Ja’Lynn Polk on a flea flicker starts things off. Jerrin Thompson intercepts Penix on third down after the long gain.

Keilan Robinson starts at RB with a run. A sack and an incompletion stall the drive. Washington blocks the punt. Washington ball on the 30.

The Huskies don’t move the ball much on the next possession. Washington makes a 46-yard field goal to make it 3-0 UW 11:44

After a penalty on the return, Texas starts on the 10. A facemask on Washington and a pass to Xavier Worthy picks up one first down and a pass to Jordan Whittington picks up another. A screen to Robinson makes it fourth and short, and Texas throws to Casey Cain for a first and goal opportunity. Penalties and negative plays bring on Bert Auburn. He hits a 30-yarder. 3-3 7:52

On 3rd and 7, Penix finds Rome Odunze for a first down. Another couple of quick passes nets another first. Washington keeps the sticks moving again. A Wayne Tualapapa run from 42 yards out. 10-3 UW 3:17

Texas gets to third down at the start of the drive and Ewers finds Worthy to move the sticks. On third and short, Ewers runs for a first down to move to Washington territory. Another Jonathon Brooks rush takes the quarter to a close.
