WACO, Texas — Chris Beard’s Texas Longhorns head to the Ferrell Center for a Saturday morning tilt with Scott Drew’s Baylor Bears. It’ll be the fifth-straight ranked opponent the Longhorns face, and the Longhorns enter 3-1 against the previous four opponents.

PREGAME

Baylor leading scorer LJ Cryer is out.

Texas will start Marcus Carr, Courtney Ramey, Timmy Allen, Brock Cunningham, and Christian Bishop. Baylor will start Adam Flagler, James Akinjo, Flo Thamba, Kendall Brown, and Matthew Mayer.

FIRST HALF

-Bishop tips in a Carr shot, and Baylor’s Mayer checks out and heads to the BU locker room. Baylor made one basket, but a jumper from Ramey and a layup from Bishop make it 6-2 Texas, with a media timeout coming at the 16:26 mark.

-The Bears have started 1-for-7 from the field, while Texas has stated 4-for-7. Baylor’s second basket is a Flagler three-pointer. Their third made basket is a Mayer three to take a 10-8 lead and get the Ferrell Center on its, feet. They’re rewarded with an 8-0 run, forcing Chris Beard to call timeout down 12-8 with 14:16 left.

-The timeout does little to help, and Baylor makes it a 16-8 game with a two-minutes, 12-0 run ended by two Dylan Disu free throws, then an Allen layup. Mayer commits another foul, but Baylor’s Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua is down near midcourt in pain. Baylor leads 16-12 with 11:41 left.

-With one second left on the shot clock, Ramey tips in an in-bound pass to make it 18-15 Bears, but Baylor responds with a bucket, then an alley-oop dunk put down by Jeremy Sochan.

-Baylor is on a 9-0 run after it was a three-point game. Texas is getting bullied all over the floor. Bear guards can blow by Texas defenders, and the Longhorns have been blocked twice. Just before the media timeout, a scuffle nearly broke out in front of the Texas bench. With 7:29 left, Baylor leads 27-15.

-Cunningham assessed a technical in the scuffle, as was Sochan.

-Jase Febres hits his first three-point basket since January 4, but Texas allows Mayer to get in the lane and to the line. He makes two free throws to make it 33-20 Bears.

-Cunningham picks up his third foul and is forced to sit on the bench for the rest of the first half. Bears up 15 points. With 3:56 remaining in the half, Baylor leads 35-20.

-Through the first 17:30, Baylor has made 50 percent of its shots, including shooting 3-for-7 from three-point land. Bears are also 12-of-13 at the line. Flagler has 13 points through 18 minutes and hasn’t missed any of his five field goals.

-The Bears started the contest 1-for-7 from the field, and ended the half 12-for-20.

-At halftime, Ramey leads Texas with eight points. Bishop has six points, Febres and Carr have five points, Allen has four points, and Disu has three points.

-BU’s Flagler has 13 points and is 5-of-6 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three. Tchamwa Tchatchuoa hasn’t returned to the floor since injuring his leg.

SECOND HALF

-Baylor starts the second half with a Flo Thamba dunk off the pick-and-roll. They then get two more at the line from Mayer. Texas is scoreless through the first two minutes, including going 0-for-3 to start the half. The Horns get an opportunity to earn their first points of the half at the line, but Allen misses two free throws. Baylor gets another bucket, and Beard takes a timeout. With 16:45 left in the game, Baylor leads 50-31.

-Devin Askew hits a three-pointer out of the timeout for the Longhorns’ first points of the second half.

-Allen commits his fourth foul after Carr can’t make it back-to-back UT possessions with a bucket, and Akinjo makes a basket and will have an opportunity to complete the and-one after the media timeout. With 15:19 left, Baylor leads 52-34. Akinjo completes it on the other side.

-Texas is 2-of-4 from three to start the second half but can’t do anything to prevent Baylor guards from getting to the basket. The Longhorns went for a stretch with an extremely small lineup composed of Ramey, Askew, Jones, Febres, and Carr. They eventually sub out of it as Carr hits 2-of-3 free throws. The Bears head down the court and hit another three to make it a 21-point game. Texas responds to make it a 16-point game.

-Coming out of the timeout, Texas gets a stop and Jones hits a three to make it a 13-point game as the clock dips under 10 minutes. Allen hits two free throws to make it an 11-point game. It’s part of a 10-0 run for the Longhorns that ended with a single Thamba free throw. He hits one a possession later.

-Texas had a chance to get the game to single digits, but a 0-for-4 stretch after cutting the lead down, plus BU opportunities at the line, makes it a 15-point game. Texas is in the bonus, as is Baylor. With 7:26 left, Baylor leads 66-51.

-Febres hits a three out of the timeout to make it a 12-point game, but it goes back to a 14-point game when Flagler drives by Disu. A Meyer drive makes the Baylor lead 16. Flagler hits another three-pointer to make it a 19-point game, and Texas takes a timeout with 5:21 left, down 73-54. Bishop hits two free throws to make it a 17-point game.

-Christian Bishop fouls out, and Baylor misses the front end but grabs the board to take more time off the clock. The possession ends with a BU offensive foul.

-Flagler misses a shot for the first time in several minutes, but it goes straight to Kendall Brown who lays it up and in. Sochan fouls out for the Bears. With 3:27 left, Texas trails 77-56. Texas has hit one of its last 11 shots. The Bears have missed one of their last six.

-Longhorns trail by 20 with 2:30 remaining, and Licon, Febres, Cunningham, Mitchell, and Avery Benson are on the floor.

-Texas loses, 80-63.
