On the very first play of overtime, the Longhorns score with Quinn Ewers finding Gunnar Helm wide open up the seam. Texas goes for the two-point try and converts with a pass to Matthew Golden.

Quinn Ewers and Matthew Golden connect on a do-or-die play

Facing a 4th and 13 with the season on the line, Quinn Ewers hits Matthew Golden in the back of the end zone for a 28-yard score. Bert Auburn hits the extra point, and the game is tied at 31 at the end of the first overtime. Texas will be on offense first in the second overtime.

Cam Skattebo gets suplexed into the end zone in the first overtime

Cam Skattebo rushes in from three yards away to make it 31-24 Arizona State after the first overtime. The Sun Devils faced a 3rd and 15 but a rush from Sam Leavitt picked up the needed yards and put ASU in position to score.

Bert Auburn misses the game-winning field goal as time expires

Quinn Ewers drove the Longhorns down the field and put Texas in position to kick a game-winning field goal, but Auburn misses the 38-yard field goal off the left upright as time expires. The game goes to overtime tied 24-24.

The Longhorns stuff Arizona State again

Michael Taaffe delivers one of the biggest hits of the season in order to stall an Arizona State drive with a minute left. Even after a booth initiated review, Taaffe remains in the game. Arizona State punts and Texas takes over on the 20.

Texas misses a field goal with 1:39 left

The Longhorns drive into Arizona State territory but are unable to get anything out of it as Bert Auburn misses a 48 yard field goal.

Arizona State ties the game at 24 with 5:00 left

Several massive gains by Cam Skattebo and multiple penalties on the Longhorns give the Sun Devils opportunity after opportunity and they take full advantage, finding the end zone. To tie the game, ASU had to go for two and their first try was unsuccessful, but a holding on Malik Muhammad gave ASU another chance. They took advantage, tying the game on a Skattebo run with 5:00 left.

Quinn Ewers throws an interception on a ball intended for Isaiah Bond and the Arizona State Sun Devils take over on their own 21.

Cam Skattebo throws a touchdown pass to make it 24-16

On a 4th and 2, Cam Skattebo throws a touchdown pass to Malik McClain for 42 yards to cap a 10-play, 75-yard drive. Arizona State goes for two and converts.

Quinn Ewers caps a 13-play drive with a rushing touchdown

Rolling right on a pass play, Quinn Ewers finally elects to tuck it and dives forward into the end zone to make it 24-8. Ewers had an up and down drive, but made a critical throw to Matthew Golden on 3rd and 10 to put the Longhorns in a goal to go situation. After a couple of mishaps, Ewers finally makes the play and gets up as excited as he’s been in a football game in some time. Texas 24, Arizona State 8 with 10:17 left.

Arizona State adds a field goal to make it 17-8

Cam Skattebo finally gets free and rushes for 33 yards to put the Sun Devils in Texas territory coming off of the safety. Arizona State threatens inside the Texas 15, but a number of negative plays keeps the Sun Devils out of the end zone. Another field goal makes it 17-8 Texas with 0:41 left in the third quarter

Arizona State nets a safety

Immediately after the stand, Quintrevion Wisner fumbles as he’s hit in the end zone and the ball deflects into Quinn Ewers hands. Ewers is taken down and Arizona State gets two points on the board. 17-5 Arizona State with 7:32 left.

Texas makes a goal-line stand on Arizona State’s first drive of the second half

They did it again. The Longhorns faced another 4th and goal and the Longhorns made the stand one more time. Texas takes over after stuffing Skattebo at the two yard line.

Texas goes three and out to start the second half. Kelvin Banks injured.

Quinn Ewers is sacked twice during Texas’ first series of the second half and the punt team is forced to take the field. In addition, Kelvin Banks was slow to get off the turf after the play but he gingerly walks off under his own power.

Ethan Burke blocks a field goal just before half

The Longhorns let the Arizona State Sun Devils advance deep into Longhorn territory after forcing what appeared to be a three-and-out. A fake punt kept Texas’ defense on the field and some solid plays by the Sun Devils moved the ball into the high red zone as the half was coming to an end. The Sun Devils could not punch it in, and Ethan Burke blocked the ensuing field goal attempt to end the half with only 3 points. 17-3 Texas at the half.

Texas’ offense can’t do anything with decent field position

The Longhorns go three and out after forcing Arizona State to turn the ball over on downs. Quinn Ewers tried to scramble and picked up a few yards but he was brought down by Keyshaun Elliott short of the needed line to gain. Michael Kern’s punt travels through the end zone for a touchback.

Another Arizona State drive ends with a turnover on downs

Arizona State drives down the field and gets into Texas territory thanks to a great play made by Sam Leavitt finding former Longhorn Troy Omeire down the field. But Michael Taaffe makes a stop on 3rd and 10 and in a move that appears desperate, Arizona State goes for it on 4th and 10. Leavitt is sacked by Trey Moore and Texas takes over with 5:09 left in the quarter on its own 38.

Texas tacks on a field goal at the end of a 13-play drive

After stopping Skattebo, the Longhorns move down the field thanks to completions to Quintrevion Wisner and Silas Bolden. A pass interference on Arizona State moves Texas further down the field. The Longhorns end up facing a 4th and 7 that brings Bert Auburn onto the field, but an offside on Arizona State makes it 4th and 2. Steve Sarkisian elects to go for it, the offense converts, and the Texas drive continues. A 3rd and goal pass intended for Matthew Golden is incomplete and the Longhorns have to kick a closer field goal. Auburn converts. 17-3 Texas 8:54 Q2

Arizona State drives down the field but is stuffed on fourth down

Cam Skattebo is stuffed on 4th and 2 inside the Texas 25 and the Longhorns take over. Alfred Collins and Trey Moore helped make the stop and Texas gets the ball back at the start of the second quarter.

Texas goes three-and-out in response

A sack of Quinn Ewers by Prince Dorbah puts the Longhorns behind the chains and Texas is unable to get the yards needed for a first down. A lengthy pass intended for Ryan Wingo on 3rd and 12 falls incomplete and Michael Kern has to punt it away. Arizona State takes over on its own 31.

Texas forces another three-and-out

The Longhorn defense forces back to back three-and-outs and makes Arizona State punt again. A nice return from Bolden is undone by a flag on Warren Roberson and Texas will have to start its drive on the 30.

Silas Bolden returns a punt for a touchdown

Texas forces Arizona State to go three and out and Silas Bolden returns the punt 75 yards to make it 14-3 with 7:08 left in the first quarter.

Longhorns strike quickly in response.

A 53 yard gain on a RPO throw from Quinn Ewers to Matthew Golden nets Texas 53 yards. The very next play, Ewers hits DeAndre Moore for a 23-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-3 Texas. Two plays nets the Longhorns 77 yards. 7-3 Texas 8:14 Q1.

Arizona State takes an early lead

The Longhorns run into the kicker and extend an Arizona State drive after Texas forced the Sun Devils to punt. Then a few plays later, Anthony Hill commits a 15-yard facemask penalty to put ASU into scoring position. The drive stalls out but not before the Sun Devils naila 40-yard field goal to make it 3-0 ASU with 8:59 left in the first quarter.
