LIVE UPDATES: Georgia wins the SEC championship in overtime

ATLANTA – The No. 2 Texas Longhorns. The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs. These two teams will meet for a second time this afternoon at 3 p.m. Central with the Southeastern Conference Championship on the line. Texas is looking for their first during the Longhorns’ first year as members of the league, while Georgia for its 15th SEC title.

On 3rd and 5, Ewers hits Ryan Wingo for a first down to move the sticks. Back to back end zone shots fall incomplete to set up a 3rd down and 10 on the 14. Ewers tosses a short completion to Wisner to set up an Auburn field goal. He nails it and it’s 19-16 Longhorns after the first portion of OT.

Georgia picks up a few more first downs, even recovers one of their own fumbles, and advances inside the red zone as six minutes remain on the clock. Georgia recovers a second fumble as it becomes first and goal. Texas’ defense makes a stand and forces a field goal. Georgia makes it to make it 16-13 with 4:32 left.

Mistakes undo a quality drive put together by Silas Bolden

However, a false start on Malik Agbo takes points off the board and Auburn’s second attempt, this time from 42, sails wide left. Quinn Ewers avoided an interception due to a straight up drop by Daniel Harris, but his team would have been in better field position if Harris had not dropped it. 4:36 left in the half.
Georgia tacks on its first points of the day via a field goal
12/07/2024 04:11:51 PMLong completions from Carson Beck to tight ends Ben Yurosek and Oscar Delp put the Bulldogs deep into Texas territory, but the Longhorn defense makes a stand and nearly records a pick that could have gone all the way back for six. The kick falls harmlessly to the turf, and Peyton Woodring hits a 44-yard field goal to make it 6-3 Texas 6:41 Q2.

A nice completion from Ewers to Moore puts the Longhorns back in Auburn territory, and he connects again to make it 6-0 Texas 10:22 Q2.

Texas allows a first down via penalty, but Georgia can’t move any further late in the first
12/07/2024 03:45:04 PMGeorgia’s only path forward on its second drive was via the penalty. A defensive pass interference call that moved the sticks once for UGA was followed by a stuff, an intentional grounding, and a dropped pass by Georgia. The ensuing punt went out the end zone for a touchback.

Texas then completes a ball 23 yards to Bond to move inside the Georgia 25. However, an offensive pass interference and a negative play set up a field goal situation for Bert Auburn.
