Live updates: Texas shuts out Oklahoma, 49-0, to win Red River Shootout
It’s finally here. The Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners battle once again in the historic Cotton Bowl for the 118th playing of the Red River Shootout.

Texas enters as a favorite, but favorites rarely matter in this classic game. Both teams bring their best no matter the situation.

Fourth quarter
Oklahoma punts and Texas takes over on its 46. Keilan Robinson then gets to the 28 very, very quickly. A penalty backs them up, and Texas faces 3rd and 9. Jonathon Brooks’ gets the carry, and a first down. He then scores and 18-yard touchdown. 49-0 Texas
Keondre Coburn records a sack of Beville on first down. On second down, nothing. On third down, a Justice Finkley sack. Texas takes over on the OU 46.
Hudson Card takes over at QB, and plenty of other backups and true freshmen have taken the field. Charles Wright now in the game. Texas gets to fourth down, and Bert Auburn attempts a 42-yard field goal, but it’s no good.
Nick Evers takes the field at QB for Oklahoma. He can’t muster anything and Oklahoma has to punt.
Behind an all-freshman OL, Texas goes three-and-out with the game out of reach.
Nothing happens with Oklahoma’s final drive, and the Longhorns win 49-0.
Third quarter
OU picks up a first down, but gets quickly into a 3rd and long. They make a catch but it’s short of the sticks. On fourth down, Beville runs but is brought down short and Oklahoma turns it over.
Texas picks up a first quickly after two Robinson runs. It gets to 3rd and short, but Johnson picks up the first down. On 3rd down, after Whittington dropped a touchdown, Ewers tries to throw the ball away but it is intercepted. OU starts on the 31.
OU quickly faces a 3rd down, but they can’t go anywhere and have to punt. Texas will take over on the 24.
Texas picks up a first on a pass to Sanders. Then, the Longhorns pick up a bunch of yardage when Ewers finds Whittington, and moves to the OU 29. A few plays later, Robinson runs it in from 11 yards out. 35-0 Texas 5:01
Oklahoma starts on the 21, but quickly backs up thanks to an Ovie Oghoufo TFL. A third down attempt falls incomplete, and OU has to punt again. They punt to the Texas 38, but a 15-yard penalty puts the Longhorns in OU territory.
A few plays nets a first down on the ground for the Longhorns. Johnson runs on the ground to get a first down and into the red zone. An 18-yard pass from Ewers to Sanders makes it a six-score game. 42-0 Texas 1:57
On the ensuing drive, Oklahoma finally starts trying to pass and gets nothing from it. A third-down brings on the punt team as the third quarter ends.

Second quarter
Texas gets the first down to start the quarter. The Longhorns move the sticks on another Whittington to Ewers pass. A nifty screen pass with a lot of misdirection puts Texas on the OU 25 thanks to Roschon Johnson.
Steve Sarkisian is calling a great drive, and a few different passes have the Longhorns with goal to go. Ewers finds Worthy on an RPO pass for a 10-yard score. 14-0 Texas 12:40
Oklahoma starts from the 25. A quick pass results in one first down. Oklahoma gets back into the Wildcat to move down the field. But facing 3rd and 10, OU fires and incompletion and has to punt.
Longhorns start on the 20. A first down throw to Whittington moves Texas to the 42. Texas faces a 3rd and 6, and Ewers find Robinson for the first down after a great catch. Looking at another 3rd down, Robinson runs through the right side for a first down inside the OU 20. Ewers finds Keilan Robinson on a swing pass for a 15-yard score. 21-0 Texas 7:31
Oklahoma starts on the 25. They go three-and-out.
The Sooners force a 3rd-and-10 for the Longhorns after two incompletions. Ewers has to throw it away, and Texas sends on the punt team.
Oklahoma begins the drive in the Wildcat. The Sooners get inside the Texas 40 on a quick handoff. They then get inside the red zone with more running. Then, Eric Gray tries to pass and it is picked off by Jahdae Barron.

Bijan Robinson picks up a first down on the ground. After a penalty and a stuff, Texas faces a 3rd-and-10 on the Oklahoma 31. OU calls a timeout. Ewers picks it up on the ground.
Texas picks up a first down with a pass to Gunnar Helm, and the Longhorns are on the OU 39. Texas tries to go deep and is rewarded with a pass interference with 24 seconds left. The next play is a 24-yard touchdown pass from Ewers to Sanders. 28-0 Texas 0:18
On the first play from scrimmage, D’Shawn Jamison intercepts Beville deep downfield. Bijan Robinson runs and the halftime whistle sounds.

First quarter

Oklahoma wins the toss and defers. Texas will receive.
Dillon Gabriel is in shorts and is no longer dressed to play.
Texas starts on the 25. Two Bijan Robinson touches result in a 3rd and 3, and a completed pass to Roschon Johnson is short of the line to gain.
Oklahoma starts with Davis Beville at quarterback. Two handoffs create a 3rd and 4, and Beville completes a pass to Brayden Willis for a first down. OU can’t do anything with it and has to punt. Xavier Worthy returns the ball to the UT 10.
On second down, Ewers finds Jordan Whittington for the games first move of the sticks. A quick pass to Ja’Tavion Sanders nets a long first down and puts Texas at midfield, but a review brings the ball back to the Longhorn 37. Still enough for a first. Texas gets to 3rd and 2, and the Longhorns get the first.
A Ewers to Whittington pass puts Texas at the 29. Robinson brings Texas to the 21. A few plays later, Texas gets to goal to go. Robinson runs it in and Texas takes a lead. 7-0 Texas 6:48
Starting on the 25, a big run out of the wildcat gets Oklahoma close to midfield. Another run puts them in Texas territory, but OU gets to 3rd and 7. On 4th down, Willis, the Wildcat QB, gets the first. OU gets to 3rd and long, and makes it 4th and short. OU lines up for the field goal, but the fake nets a first down.
On 4th and short, Oklahoma is stuffed and Texas takes over on the eight. Texas runs plays and will face a 3rd and 1 on the other side of the break.

Pregame
Steve Sarkisian told Longhorn Network that Quinn Ewers will start at quarterback, confirming an Inside Texas report.
Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel participated in pregame warmups, but there is no indication as to his status. He is, at least, dressed to play.
Texas QB-OC pairings: Quinn Ewers and Jake Majors. Hudson Card and Connor Robertson. Charles Wright and Logan Parr. Maalik Murphy and Cole Hutson.
On the other side of the field, Gabriel is warming up with first-string Sooner center Andrew Raym.
It does not appear as if Quinn Ewers has any sort of obvious brace or apparatus on his left shoulder.
