The Longhorn Alphabet: Texas Football A to Z -- A children's book for Longhorn fans
I’ve always seen sports through the lens of fandom. Maybe that’s because I was brought up at the school of Bill Simmons and Page 2, but it’s probably because it was what our family did together. Sports and fandom were a thing you passed down through the generations.

It’s been quite the ride getting to watch my own kids become Texas Longhorn fans. The joy of getting to watch them fall in love with gameday, the agony of watching their first heartbreaks over defeats. It’s all part of it. But, with fandom you are in it together. My son once wondered why there wasn’t a Texas Football book like the alphabet books he loved about the NFL, NBA and Texas history. I figured I’d be the one who should create it.
Luckily, I found an amazing illustrator to help me bring it to life. Now, the traditions of Longhorn Football like “The Eyes of Texas” and a corny dog at The State Fair of Texas are in book form. As are the icons of past decades, Tommy Nobis, Freddie Steinmark and Earl Campbell. Kids of all ages can learn about Roll Left and 53 Veer Pass, plus see amazing illustrations of their favorite players: Bijan Robinson, Xavier Worthy and Vince Young.
The great Derrick Johnson graces the cover and runs with the ball, presumably after a recovery of one of his trademarked punches that caused a fumble. DJ had this to say about the book: “The Longhorn Alphabet is an excellent journey through the history and traditions of Texas Football. The captivating illustrations and engaging writing make it a hit with kids. As a lifetime Longhorn and a father, I’m proud to share it with my own children. It’s an amazing way to introduce young readers to the spirit of Longhorn Nation.”

Inside Texas’ own Eric Nahlin had the following to say: “The Longhorn Alphabet is a must-get for parents wanting to bond with their children over their favorite college football team. Not only have I bought it for my six-year-old son, but also my niece and nephew. This book is the ideal way to get children started early, not only with their ABC’s and reading but also supporting the Horns. With the brief history lesson, adults will gain plenty of value as well. Combining easily digestible information with engaging artwork, I can’t recommend it enough.”
You can pre-order The Longhorn Alphabet from my website or from Amazon. Information will be coming about what retailers and stores you can purchase it from as well.
