Due to inclement weather prior to the holiday weekend, what was supposed to be a Thursday through Saturday series versus Kansas State became a Friday through Sunday affair. Even with the change in schedule, Texas did not move a game in San Marcos versus Texas State set for Monday or the return game against the Bobcats at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday.

The Longhorns won the first game at Bobcat Ballpark, but lost to Texas State on Tuesday, 9-3. With that result, Texas finished the first stretch of five games in five days for the program since 2008 with a 3-2 record.

In game one with the Bobcats on Monday, the Longhorns held Texas State at bay for most of the night. The Horns broke the game open in the eighth when Jalin Flores drove in two runs with a pinch-hit double. Kobe Minchey earned the win in the 5-2 Longhorn victory in a declared start, the first win of his career.

The taxing stretch of games caught up with the Longhorns on Tuesday versus the capable Bobcats in Austin. Three different pitchers with fewer than seven innings of work this season, Cody Howard, Max Grubbs, and Cameron O’Banan, made appearances for Texas. They surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits, with O’Banan taking the loss in his collegiate debut.

Dylan Campbell, Peyton Powell, and Mitchell Daly drove in runs on Tuesday, with Campbell and Daly both hitting solo shots.

Texas took two of three over the weekend from Kansas State, with wins on Friday and Sunday. In the opening game, Lucas Gordon recovered from a shaky start to complete 6.0 innings of two-hit, two-run ball. Chase Lummus earned the win with 2.0 innings of shutout work, while Zane Morehouse earned the save.

A five-run eighth to go up 6-5 spurned by extra base hits from Peyton Powell, Garret Guillemette, and Porter Brown, plus a sac fly from Tanner Carlson, put the Longhorns ahead for Morehouse in Game 1.

Texas would not mount a comeback in Game 2 thanks to the effort from Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week Tyson Neighbors. In a three-inning save, Neighbors allowed one hit and one walk while striking out eight.

Game 3 was an easy Texas win, with the Longhorns scoring eight runs in the first five innings. Charlie Hurley took home the win, his third of the year, after the Longhorns’ 8-2 win.

Rest finally arrives for the Longhorns ahead of a weekend Big 12 series with Baylor in Waco. Game 1 is 6:30 p.m. on Friday on ESPN+ .
