Longhorns Hoops: No. 5 Texas at Texas Tech preview

The No. 5 ranked Texas Longhorns are in Lubbock for a Big Monday contest against Texas Tech.

The Longhorns (20-5, 9-3) are coming off a 94-60 blowout win over West Virginia Saturday, and take the court tonight one game up in the Big 12 race.

The Red Raiders (13-12, 2-10) are gaining confidence with back-to-back home wins over ranked Iowa State and Kansas State sandwiched between road losses at Baylor and Oklahoma State.

The Longhorns are 13-4 under interim head coach Rodney Terry, including three wins over ranked opponents. Texas is 4-2 on the road in Big 12 play under Terry.

How to watch the game

Texas and Texas Tech tipoff at 8 p.m. Central on ESPN with Jon Sciambi (play by play), Fran Fraschilla (analyst) and Kris Budden (reporter) calling the action.

The game will be played at the United Supermarkets Arena (15,000) – Lubbock, Texas

The Longhorns lead the series 89-65. Texas won the last meeting 72-70 January 14, 2023 in Austin.

The Rodney Terry File

Rodney Terry enters Tuesday with a career record of 176-160. He has been a head coach at the Division I level for ten year prior to joining Chris Beard’s staff in Austin.

Terry built the Fresno State program up in his time in California. The Bulldogs won 20 or more games in four of Terry’s last five seasons. That included three times in post season play. Terry has a 0-1 record in the NCAA Tournament.

The Mark Adams File

Mark Adams is in his second season as the head coach of Texas Tech, and seventh as a head coach at the Division I level. He has a career record of 83-112, including 39-22 at Texas Tech. He led the Red Raiders to a 27-10 record last season.

Adams has also been a head coach for five seasons at the Division II level. He posted a 108-40 record at West Texas A&M from 1987-92.

Adams has a 2-1 record in the NCAA Tournament. The Red Raiders advanced to the Sweet 16 last season.
