The video features photos and highlights of the quarterbacks throwing on the opening day of practice.
Burton came away duly impressed with incumbent Quinn Ewers and much-ballyhooed freshman Arch Manning, who were No. 1 and 2, respectively, in their first workout of the Spring.
“Suddenly the room looks like it’s very, very full and very, very good,” Burton explained. “Multiple talented quarterbacks for the Longhorns, including Quinn Ewers, Arch Manning and Maalik Murphy, who was sidelined today, according to coach Steve Sarkisian, while dealing with a recurring foot injury.”
One of the things that Sarkisian, who was a quarterback at BYU, focused on in his post-practice press conference was that his transition from a first-year starter to a second-year starter was one of the biggest. Sark said he felt like Ewers was feeling better, looking better and being more of a leader as well.
Manning passed for more than 8,500 yards in high school and is just now getting comfortable with being college a quarterback and being in Austin. Sarkisian mentioned that Manning has already lost his ID a couple times.
“The interesting thing for me today was watching both of these quarterbacks just throw it up and just the ease with which they were able to toss the ball around the yard,” Burton said. “It is an impressive thing to say the least. Texas has not one but a pair of quarterbacks that really have a unique ability to make just about every throw on the football field.”

Sarkisian said he’s looking for development over time from the entire team.
“What are they going to look like a month from now or a couple more weeks from now when he’s able to see them a few more times?” Burton said. “That that kind of gradual or consistent improvement over time is something that’s very important to him and something he wants to see from his QBs.”
Burton called the Longhorns quarterback room one of the most talented in the country.
“I’ve been following Texas football for 30 years and Texas hasn’t had a pair of quarterbacks this good and this talented since Colt McCoy and Vince Young were in the same room,” Burton opined. “But nobody knew McCoy at that time would end up being McCoy. And Vince Young clearly led the team to a national championship that year.
“I will say this. These two guys are both NFL-level passers. And I’m anxious not only to see what those two guys do the rest of the year but also what Maalik Murphy is going to do.”
Texas will go back to practice on Wednesday and then again on Friday. It will take spring break and then come back for four more weeks, with three a day three times a week culminating in the spring game on April 15.
There’s plenty more from Burton so go watch the video in its entirety.
