Max Abmas named Big 12 newcomer of the week
Texas guard Max Abmas was named the Big 12 newcomer of the week on Monday, the Big 12 Conference announced. This is the third time this season Abmas has earned the honor, joining December 18 and January 15.

During the Longhorns’ last two games, one a 76-72 overtime loss to Houston in the Moody Center and the other a 77-66 win at TCU, Abmas scored 41 total points on 12-for-29 shooting including 4-for-13 from three. He also pulled down seven rebounds and dished seven assists.
Against the Cougars, Abmas scored 20 points on 6-of-15 shooting in 43 minutes. Versus TCU, Abmas scored 21 points on 6-for-14 shooting and added a 7-for-7 outing from the line. He scored the Longhorns’ last 11 points in the final 3:30 against TCU, outscoring the Horned Frogs by himself 11-2.
Abmas leads the Longhorns in scoring with 17.9 ppg. He is currently No. 13 all-time on the Division I men’s career scoring list with 2955 points. He passed Danny Manning on Saturday and is tracking down Cincinnati’s Oscar Robertson at 2973.
