Max Abmas named to Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year watch list
Max Abmas was one of 20 players named to the watch list for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday. The honor named after the Holy Cross and Boston Celtics legend recognizes the top point guard in Division I men’s basketball.

Abmas has earned a number of distinctions during the preseason. He was named a second-team preseason All-American by Fox Sports and a third-team member by CBS Sports. Abmas was also selected to the Big 12’s preseason all-conference team.
Abmas is the active leader in scoring in Division I with 2562 points and in scoring average with 20.8 points per game. In 123 games for Oral Roberts, he converted 38.8 percent of his three point shots and 88.1 percent of his free throws.

Per Texas, Abmas was a three-time honorable mention All-America selection (The Associated Press) and twice named Summit League Player of the Year (2021 and 2023). As a senior in 2022-23 at Oral Roberts, he averaged 21.9 ppg, 4.0 apg and 4.4 rpg in 36.0 mpg and ranked ninth in Division I in scoring and fifth in free throw percentage (.919). As a sophomore in 2020-21, Abmas guided Oral Roberts to the NCAA Sweet 16 while leading Division I in scoring (24.5 ppg) and ranking second nationally in three-point field goals made per game (3.6). He earned his BS in Mathematics from ORU in Spring 2023 and is pursuing a graduate certificate in Strategic Communication.
