AUSTIN — And it begins.

Texas TE MJ McFarland will be transferring from Texas.

As Eric and Shuttlesworth have alluded to for weeks now, there will by attrition. McFarland is the first.

McFarland graduated in May 2014, so he can transfer and have immediate eligibility. He’ll have one season left in college football.

“Sometimes in life you have to listen to your heart instead of your mind, and I have decided to move on a play my last year elsewhere,” McFarland said. “It was a tough decision because I love Texas, and I’ve met a lot of great people who have made a tremendous impact in my life. I want thank Coach (Charlie) Strong and the staff for allowing me the opportunity to play at UT. It has truly been a privilege. I am a Texas alumnus now, I have my degree, and I will forever be a Longhorn.”

McFarland played in 36 career games, including eight starts, and caught 19 passes for 178 yards and three TDs. As a junior in 2014, he played in all 13 games with four starts and had 11 receptions for 53 yards and two TDs. A native of El Paso, Texas, he is a two-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and graduated in May 2014 with a degree in applied learning and development.
