“I think I can really help in Austin,” Carter told Inside Texas’ Justin Wells. “Great atmosphere, great environment, and warm weather. Tired of playing in Big Ten. Too cold.”
The 6-foot-2, 300-pound native of Georgia with two years to play chose the Longhorns over Ohio State, Arkansas, and Illinois after making visits to all four schools.
“I loved my visit,” Carter said. “It’s like a family atmosphere in Austin. The coaches and players are great. Bo Davis was real and wants me to be great.”
Carter, who totaled 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 2022, made an official visit to Texas April 11-12 prior to visiting Ohio State over the weekend.
Carter signed with Minnesota in 2019 out Lee County High in Leesburg, Ga. He appeared in 32 games for the Golden Gophers recording 55 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and one interception.

Carter was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2022 by the league coaches. He was also tabbed Academic All-Big Ten in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Carter adds to Texas’ potent interior
The addition of Carter adds to a potent collection of interior defensive linemen. Texas’ top three are locked in with senior T’Vondre Sweat, junior Byron Murphy II and senior Alfred Collins. Carter will come in and provide experienced depth against the run with two years to play. Junior Vernon Broughton is also expected back.
Redshirt freshman Aaron Bryant and true freshman Sydir Mitchell are also expected to be in the rotation next season. Redshirt freshman Zac Swanson has flashed a promising motor, but has to continue to add weight to his frame.
Another redshirt freshman Jaray Bledsoe has a very promising future, but could still end up outside long term.
