New contract details for Beard, Pierce, Elliott on Board of Regents meeting agenda

The University of Texas Board of Regents is holding a special meeting Friday to discuss the Longhorns’ athletic conference membership, but that is not the only major athletics related topic on the agenda.
Details regarding new contracts for baseball coach David Pierce, volleyball coach Jerritt Elliott, and men’s basketball coach Chris Beard were released in the meeting’s agenda book. The contracts are all pending board approval.
Pierce, who recently completed the fifth season of his original six-year contract, was extended through the 2026 season. He received a raise from $750,000 per year to $1.2 million per year. In five seasons at Texas, Pierce is 172-94 with two College World Series appearances and two Big 12 regular season titles.
Elliott, 506-107 in 20 seasons at Texas, is fresh off a run to the national finals following the Longhorns’ fourth conference title and ninth Big 12 championship in the last 10 seasons. He will be paid $557,500 per year through the 2025 season.

Beard and his initial staff also had their contracts sent to the board for approval. Beard’s total compensation is $5 million per year through the 2028 season. $2 million will be paid directly to Beard while the remaining $3 million will be paid to Baseline Group LLC, a limited liability company operated by Beard.
Texas will also issue a one-time payment to Texas Tech as part of Beard’s voluntary termination of his previous employment.
