Texas is undefeated in the SEC. After numerous penalties, turnovers, and reviewed plays, the No. 1 Longhorns defeated Mississippi State, 35-13, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday. This was the first football game as a member of the Southeastern Conference and Arch Manning‘s second career start. The latest Manning performed well.

Manning was a sharp 26-of-31 passing for 324 yards, and three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing). Deandre Moore was the recipient of two of those scoring passes, netting 103 yards receiving on four catches. The duo’s 27-yard connection gave Texas the commanding, 28-6, lead early in the final stanza.

Up one possession midway through the third quarter, the Horns went on an adventurous 10-play, 75-yard drive culminating in Manning’s one-yard scoring plunge and the 21-6 advantage, seconds before the fourth quarter.

The redshirt freshman Texas quarterback Manning began the day and ended the day dealing. He was 4-of-4 on the first drive, including a nice 20-yard pitch-and-catch to Moore that setup Jaydon Blue‘s 1-yard scoring plunge and the early lead, 7-0. Texas went 72 yards on five plays in under two minutes to open the scoring. It was also Blue’s sixth touchdown in his last seven quarters.

Texas starting QB Quinn Ewers was officially listed as OUT on the SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report released 90 minutes before kickoff.

Manning went right back to Moore for a 49-yard touchdown catch with 0:46 seconds remaining in the first half as the Horns headed to the locker room up, 14-6.
