No. 2 Texas Baseball moves to No. 1 in the SEC after series win in Lexington.

Texas took the game and series in Lexington, Kentucky, today, beating the Wildcats 5-4 to finish the away series ahead 2-1. CF Will Gasparino had two doubles and two RBIs, alongside scoring two runs himself, and reliever Grayson Saunier completed a one-run, 2 1/3-inning save to hold off Kentucky from upsetting the No. 2 team.

Despite dropping a game to the unranked Wildcats, Texas’ weekend was successful in the grand scheme of the college baseball world. Texas entered the weekend tied for first place in the SEC with Arkansas, but the Razorbacks dropped their series against the No. 7 Georgia Bulldogs, a team Texas swept last week.
Texas is now 13-2 in conference play and 29-5 overall, firmly in first place in the conference, with Arkansas and Tennessee trailing by one and two games, respectively.
After Texas lost its Saturday game to the Wildcats in 15 innings, the Longhorns had a chance to slip in the rankings, both nationally and in the SEC. However, a solid performance on Sunday and some favorable results may hoist Texas to the No. 1 ranking in the nation.
No. 1 Arkansas lost its series, as mentioned earlier, so they will drop in the rankings. Behind Texas, No. 3 LSU was swept by No. 9 Auburn, and both No. 4 Clemson and No. 5 Tennessee lost a game in their series.

With a series win and these favorable results, there is little doubt about who will be the unanimous No. 1 team in the nation tomorrow: the Texas Longhorns. It is expected that Texas will be ranked first, with some order of Clemson, Tennessee, Georgia, and Arkansas trailing them in the top five.
This is the nature of college baseball. Even with Texas losing a game in an unranked series, the Longhorns have emerged as the unanimous best team in their conference and the nation. Despite issues at left field, as mentioned in a recent heat-check article, Texas appears to be one of the most complete teams in the country.
What head coach Jim Schlossnagle and the rest of his staff have accomplished with this team in just one season is remarkable. The Longhorns are going to be the team to beat for the remainder of the SEC schedule.
Texas will face UTRGV at home on Tuesday before preparing for an important home series against the Auburn Tigers, the team that just swept LSU. With another series win, Texas will have clinched the fabled 15-win mark in conference play—a near guarantee for postseason baseball for the Longhorns, no matter what happens the rest of the way.
