School and bowl media relations departments often put together a flipcard that has the numerical roster, information about each school, coach, and more so that writers and broadcasters have some basic data on both teams. These flipcards often include an unofficial depth chart.

As Inside Texas readers know, the depth chart provided by UT is often worth as much as the paper it’s printed on. However, due to the fact that the last Texas Longhorns football game was over a month ago, the depth chart provided by the Alamo Bowl does offer several details about what might be seen on the Alamodome’s playing surface when the Longhorns take on the Huskies at 8 p.m. on Thursday night.

Quarterback: As previously mentioned by Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, Maalik Murphy is now the Longhorns’ backup quarterback since Hudson Card elected to transfer to Purdue. Murphy has yet to appear in a game this season. Quinn Ewers remains the starter.

Running back: Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson opted out of the bowl and declared for the NFL Draft, leaving Keilan Robinson, Jonathon Brooks, and Jaydon Blue on the depth chart. Keilan Robinson has played plenty this year, but has rarely rushed between the tackles in non-garbage time. Expect to see all three of Robinson, Brooks, and Blue when the Longhorns are looking to rush the ball.

Jack: Maceal Afaese is a misprint from the 2021 Alamo Bowl. He is an Oregon Duck. He is not in the transfer portal. He is not a Longhorn. It most likely is Justice Finkley behind Barryn Sorrell.

Buck: J’Mond Tapp is listed as a co-starter with Ovie Oghoufo at the Longhorns’ weakside EDGE spot. Tapp has one tackle this year.

Will LB: With DeMarvion Overshown not participating in the Alamo Bowl, Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey and David Gbenda comprise the two-deep for the Longhorns. Earlier in the week, Mike linebacker Jaylan Ford also mentioned Morice Blackwell as a player who could factor at that position. Blackwell is listed as the first-string Sam LB, a position typically on the field only when the Longhorn defense is in base.

cORnerback: Terrance Brooks, who started the last three games of the year opposite fellow Little Elm native Ryan Watts, has the ‘OR’ designation on the depth chart with D’Shawn Jamison at cornerback.

Punter: With Isaac Pearson entering the transfer portal, Will Stone has taken over the backup punter position. He will continue his normal kickoff duties.

Holder: Second-string long-snapper Zach Edwards will be the holder on field goals, taking over for Card.
