Texas expects at least 46 official visitors this coming month. To my recollection, we’d have to go back more than 20 years to find a single month that brought in that many recruits for their official visits.

It’s abundantly clear from a numbers perspective what Longhorn coaches feel are two of the biggest needs are.

Texas is bringing in about a dozen defensive linemen and edge prospects combined. And another 11 defensive backs have also set their official visits for the month of June.

As Texas preps for the SEC, it’s obvious the Horns are looking to get bigger up front on D and faster with more depth in the secondary.

Two other positions of note:

– Six wide receivers.

– Seven OLs.

Recruiting is almost as heavily weighted to the month of June as it used to be to the month of January.

Yet there doesn’t seem to be the same sense of urgency given the actual first time recruits can sign is still months away and not right around the corner.

Still, this month should bring some much needed clarity for Texas and its pursuit of many of the nation’s best prospects.
