Ohio State DT transfer Hero Kanu commits to Texas
The Texas Longhorns now have a trifecta of transfer portal defensive tackles for the 2025 season, as Ohio State DT Hero Kanu committed to Texas. Kanu chose the Longhorns over Georgia, Florida, and others.

Kanu has two seasons of eligibility remaining. A 6-foot-4, 315 pounder originally from Geltendorf, Germany who attended Santa Margarita Catholic in California, Kanu has played in 26 career games. He has 14 tackles and one sack.
Kanu played in 15 games during the 2024 season, and even recorded a tackle against the Longhorns in the 2025 Cotton Bowl Classic. In 2023 in 11 games, he notched 10 tackles with one sack.
According to Pro Football Focus, Kanu logged 123 snaps on defense during the Buckeyes’ national title campaign. He posted a season-high 26 snaps against Marshall, and had double digit plays versus Michigan State, Purdue, and Tennessee. The majority of his snaps, 109 to be exact, were in the B-gap per PFF.

Kanu currently does not have a transfer ranking per On3.
Kanu is the third defensive line transfer to join the Longhorns along with North Carolina’s Travis Shaw and Purdue’s Cole Brevard. The Longhorns are losing Alfred Collins, Vernon Broughton, Bill Norton, and Jermayne Lole from the 2024 team, and have seen Tia Savea, Aaron Bryant, and Jaray Bledsoe elect to transfer out.
Kanu joins a transfer portal class that ranked in the 40s prior to his addition.
