In this episode, Justin and Bobby discuss:
- Justin and Bobby begin with the Longhorns 2023 defensive freshmen class and the early enrollees. Linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. was the first name mentioned as the most impactful on the defense. His ability to play multiple spots shows he’s ready for his first season on the Forty Acres. Next up was cornerback Malik Muhammad, who showed a spark during Spring ball. He’s now firmly entrenched in the rotation and should see a lot of reps in 2023. Defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell was next, and with his size and strength, adds immediate depth to an already loaded defensive front. The last freshman mentioned was Austin (Texas) Westlake EDGE Colton Vasek, who is playing behind his former teammate at Ethan Burke.
- Justin and Bobby talk about June’s enrollees, including New Iberia (La.) Westgate safety Derek Williams, Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff EDGE Billy Walton, and Waco (Texas) Connally LB/S Jelani McDonald. They are just a few of the rest of 2023 cycle yet to hit the Austin campus. Williams and McDonald could flourish on special teams for Texas this season.
- Justin and Bobby break down the most important position on defense that Texas should put an emphasis on, with defensive line leading the way. After only taking one d-lineman last cycle, the Horns roster needs 3-4 bodies from the 2024 class, with Alex January, Terrance Hibbler, and D’antre Robinson in the mix.
