Both Hamilton and Babers talked about the excitement created by Texas’ win over the Crimson Tide. The Wyoming game was announced as a sellout by the University’s Athletic Department on Friday.

“Saturday night, under the lights, I think it’s gonna be an amazing atmosphere,” Hamilton said. “It’s gonna be an amazing atmosphere on Bevo Boulevard. And when this team comes out from under the tunnel I think there’s gonna be an ovation we haven’t heard in DKR and a few years since the end of the Notre Dame game.”

Babers said the Longhorn fandom has been waiting for this moment.

“You’re talking about one of the greatest wins in the history of Texas football and now you got the Longhorn faithful,” he opined. “They are basically the ones who weren’t there to welcome the team when they flew in from Alabama when they wanted to be there to show their appreciation.

“You know that they actually support this team and that they appreciate that win, which essentially confirmed and answered a lot of questions about the upside and possibilities could be for this team what they could accomplish. The ultimate goal is that this team could be good enough to compete with any team in the country.”

Babers added that a key for the Wyoming game and beyond will be how do the team, and even coach Steve Sarkisian, handles success as opposed to battling adversity.

“This was the biggest win of Sark’s career as a head coach. “I don’t know how he’s gonna direct the players, how the messaging will change – I’m sure it will – for Sark to really try to communicate with his guys how to handle success. It’s a different message then hey, we’re bringing back Texas, we’ve got to earn respect, we’re the underdog, nobody’s giving us against the world. Now the world’s behind you. The world thinks you’re great.”

Part of the task Sarkisian has now is putting the Longhorns’ success, even after just two games, into perspective.

“This is just one step, right?” Babers explained. “We knew we could do this, but this is just one step on our road to achieve our ultimate goal, which is to be a championship football team. Let’s not let success or a win distract us from our goal. Let’s stay let’s stay committed.

“And by the way, I think the message also is ‘guys, the process works. It’s been proven the coaching works. The strength and conditioning is working and the developments are working, Hey guys, let’s double down on the process.’”
