In this episode, Eric and Bobby discuss:
- Will Texas have a homefield advantage in the upcoming Alamo Bowl versus Washington? Do the Longhorns matchup well? “To me, it’s just a style matchup,” Nahlin said of the key matchup in the game. “Texas has a good advantage as far as the defense matching up well to their passing attack, and I think that’s the story of the game.” He also discusses the input Gary Patterson has had on the Longhorn defense and how it’ll help the pass defense versus Michael Penix and the Huskies.
- Speaking of Penix, who played for Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer when he was the offensive coordinator at Indiana, Burton added: “They have put up really impressive numbers. For those that haven’t seen, Penix is a left-hander. Very accurate. He throws the deep ball, and has a group of receivers that are pretty solid.” The two then discuss how important motivation is to winning bowl games.
- Jaylan Ford and Xavier Worthy both were non-committal about their futures at Texas on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, with Ford in reference to his potential NFL future and Worthy talking about his potential future at Texas. “Jaylan Ford, he should test the waters,” Nahlin said. “You want feedback, he had a sensational year, especially in the second half. People that have a very good second half of the season probably need to come back and build on it, but that’s for him to decide. I think he should come back and I think he will come back. Xavier Worthy, I see a lot differently. He’s a Texas player. Why didn’t he just say ‘I’m coming back next year?'”
- The two then offer overarching thoughts on Texas’ 2023 recruiting class, especially the additions of Tausili Akana and DeAndre Moore. “I thought they closed well,” Nahlin said. “They closed with the last couple of things they thought they needed from the high school ranks.” Finally, they look ahead to the 2024 recruiting class and who the top prospects are in that group.
