Justin and Bobby discuss…

  • Justin and Bobby start off by looking at the newest staffer added to the Longhorns staff. Jacquies Smith, who is a Dallas South Oak Cliff product and enjoyed a solid NFL career after standing out at Missouri, comes to Austin as a pass-rush specialist after he started a company called Trench Warfare in DFW. Justin says this is his way of jumping into coaching after several seasons in the league, but it also provides a connection to Colin Simmons and others throughout the Metroplex.
  • The Longhorns are coming off a major recruiting weekend with commitments from Jordon Johnson-Rubell, Parker Livingstone, and Alex January. Johnson-Rubell was an enjoyable cover for Justin, who is a standout at IMG Academy. Justin praises Johnson-Rubell for getting out of his comfort zone and excelling with the national powerhouse.
  • Livingstone was the first commit of the day on Saturday, preceding January and Johnson-Rubell. Burton explains that Livingstone has 28 TDs over the last two varsity seasons, which shows his deep-ball prowess, and that there’s no doubt Texas will take four wideouts in the 2024 class.
  • January, a Duncanville DT and a Texas legacy, is what Justin describes as a “fun kid.” At 14-years-old, January was 6-foot-3, 290 pounds. Now he’s 6-foot-5 and over 320 pounds. January was once a baseball player for the Panthers but decided to focus on the gridiron. Justin drops Amobi Okoye as a comparison.
  • Justin then notes how many members of football families have given their stamp of approval to Texas. It’s not just January, but Santana Wilson, Terrance Brooks, Arch Manning, and others who had their football families sign off on Steve Sarkisian.

  • Bobby then looks forward to some decisions that Inside Texas is waiting on. Jordan Washington, Malik Blocton, and Aeryn Hampton are on deck this week, with Washington likely to announce on July 4. Justin sees momentum carrying over from the late-June official visit weekend, even though Washington saw Texas on June 16-18.
  • Justin then talks how there could be several high-profile recruitments that could come to a resolution soon, including Kobe Black, Colin Simmons, and others.
  • The final topic covers Selman Bridges, a sought-after defensive back who may not have a timeline whose schedule aligns with those of the Longhorns.
