In this episode, Joe and Justin discuss:
- Joe and Justin open with the Texas Longhorns’ early Spring practice observations, notably quarterback and defensive line. For the signal-callers, Quinn Ewers continues to impress with his budding leadership and improved mechanics and demeanor. He’s taken on a bigger role in 2023, which is imperative to UT’s success in 2023. Incoming five-star Arch Manning is running with the 2s early on in camp and certainly looks the part. At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, the New Orleans native arrived to Austin in January as prepared as any recruit in recent memory. With Steve Sarkisian announcing Murphy’s pre-Spring injury, it pushes the Cali-raised quarterback further down the depth chart. Murphy flashed last season during scout team, and the staff is high on the 6-foot-5 athlete. Ideally, Murphy would return and take the second-team spot, but don’t sleep on Manning.
- Joe and Justin look at the Texas Pro Day today from the practice bubble on campus. After Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, DeMarvion Overshown, Keondre Coburn, and Moro Ojomo performed at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last week, players like D’Shawn Jamison and Anthony Cook hope to put on a good show and test well in front many of the NFL scouts in attendance. With Jamison, today looms large. He needs to run and test well in hopes of sneaking into the later part of the draft or be an alluring take as an undrafted rookie free agent. Special teams play might be his niche at the next level.
- Joe and Justin finish up with Texas Basketball and the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City. The Horns take on Oklahoma State this evening, with guard play important in this team’s final run of 2023. Tyrese Hunter has had the hot hand of late and is instrumental in Texas’ and coach Rodney Terry’s success.
