Dixon runs the Bengal Tiger, On3’s LSU affiliate. The Longhorns and the Tigers are the two teams out in front of the competition for Simmons, who is set to decide on the On3 YouTube channel on August 10.

Simmons’ last two visits were to Texas and LSU, with his trip to Austin back in late June and his visit to Baton Rouge taking place at the end of July.

Dixon agreed with much of Gerry Hamilton’s assessment from the Texas side of the ledger.

“Now that he’s set a decision date, everyone asks me: who sets a decision date without knowing where they’re going?” Dixon said. “Well, not a lot of prospects but if some do it could be guys like Colin Simmons. As you noted, they hold all the cards.”

Dixon continued, “whatever happens this week, I think that even from talking to people around the LSU side and sources, they know that if this goes LSU’s way that just means it’s four more months of having to hold on tight and recruit him.”

Dixon said LSU is selling NFL development year-over-year, the ability to be featured in the defense, and a new sense of momentum under Brian Kelly.

For LSU, Dixon says that this is a full team effort between Kelly, assistants, and personnel staffers.

“I would say, probably a lot like Texas, that it’s been a real staff effort,” Dixon said. “When you’ve got a kid this talented, who’s got this kind of ranking, you can’t just put a coach on him or a coach and a personnel person. You have to have all hands on deck, and I think that’s been the approach.”

The SEC being a box both schools check is a positive for Texas and places emphasis elsewhere in this recruitment. In addition, LSU has not ventured into DFW that often, especially not to pull a player from Duncanville. However, the Tigers are giving it their best shot with Simmons and teammate Caden Durham.

“I feel very good about them getting Caden Durham,” Dixon said of LSU. “I don’t think Caden Durham and Colin Simmons are package deals, even if they’re going to the same schools or announcing on the same day. They could be best friends in the world. I’ve never once been told by anybody close to any of their recruitments that they were a package deal. For them to at least get one (Duncanville prospect) I thought was a big. For us to be sitting here debating LSU maybe getting two kids out of Duncanville is very foreign territory for LSU.”
