It was Inside Texas’ position that Texas narrowly lost out on Wardell Mack to Florida when he made his initial announcement on August 14 and this recruitment likely had more tread remaining on the tire.
Just as he did with Terrance Brooks in the 2022 cycle, Texas cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph continued relationship building and recruiting Mack despite the initial setback.
Last week, Mack spoke to Inside Texas’ Gerry Hamilton about UT, “That’s a great program with great people,” Mack told IT Thursday at John Ehret High. “That is one team that hasn’t stopped recruiting me whether I’m committed or not, and said they will be there until the end. They are showing me I’m a priority.”

“Coach Joseph and I talk often,” Mack said. “Multiple times weekly, honestly. Our connection keeps getting stronger and stronger. He has a good feel for where I’m at. He’s just being patient and riding it out with me.”
The addition of Mack helps address a major need in the class. He’s a talented cornerback first and foremost, but he could also play Star given his blend of athleticism and physicality.
On3 Scouting Report:
Smooth moving defensive back with the length and playmaking ability to make an impact as a cornerback or safety. Measured in at around 6-foot-0.5, 170 pounds prior to his senior season. Has elite length for the position with arms that measure 33.75 inches. Shows the ability to stick with receivers, using his length and movement skills to stay in-phase. Physical in press coverage, using his length to reroute receivers at the line of scrimmage. Shows loose hips and is fluid when changing directions. Has refined footwork with a very smooth backpedal in the camp setting. A willing downhill defender, not scared of contact or being physical as a tackler. Shows solid top-end speed, but not look to be top-tier in that regard. Ball skills are good not great, as he does not look to be the most natural pass catcher. Is still comfortable playing the ball at the catch point, getting his hands on the football. Viewed as a high floor prospect who could see an immediate role as a nickel corner at the next level and eventually developing into a field corner. Relatively young for the class, turning 18 in April of his senior year of high school.
Wardell Mack is the On3 Industry Ranking No. 105 player and No. 13 cornerback in the country and the No. 4 player in Louisiana.
