The 6-foot-2.5, 225-pound Five-Star Plus+ prospect holds offers from virtually every program in the nation, including Texas, LSU, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, and Texas A&M.

Over the last few months, Simmons’ recruitment has turned into more of a Texas-LSU battle. He took official visits to Texas, Miami, Oregon and SMU, then saw LSU last weekend unofficially.

The No. 1 EDGE prospect in the country dropped a hint on Wednesday, July 19th.

Simmons is the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as both the nation’s No. 1 EDGE and the No. 1 recruit in Texas.

Colin Simmons broke down his top contenders in May

At the On3 NIL Elite Series event in May, Simmons talked about each of the schools he was still strongly considering, including Texas:

Texas: “I’m from Texas, it’s the home state team. Austin is an upcoming city and there’s a lot of potential I see out there. I feel like Austin, Texas is going to be — and not just UT itself — up in the next couple of years. Their pitch is honestly just that they need me and want me real bad, especially at my position. [Coach Sark is] definitely top two head coaches that I’ve ever met, not only high school but just that I’ve ever met. I love everything about him, his personality, everything. He’s outgoing, he’s outstanding.”

On3 PERSONAL LIFE

Duncanville coach Reginald Samples has built one of the top football factories in the country, and he annually sends a long list of players to the next level. So, it speaks volumes when he gushes about Colin Simmons. “He’s quick off the ball like EDGE rushers have to be,” Samples said. “He is relentless. He doesn’t give up. People know that he has a lot of sacks. He’s very disruptive, and he continues to do it game after game.” That included in 2022 when he set the Texas UIL state sack record and captured defensive MVP honors in the state title game against Galena Park North Shore. “I’m the heart of the defense, if I’m not sparking them up no one does,” Simmons said.
