Overshown commits to Texas

ARP, TX — Another #bEASTtexas boom just landed when Arp’s 4-star DB/LB DeMarvion Overshown committed to Texas.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound All-State defender held offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, and Texas A&M. This guy tracks and smacks and will instantly add a new prospect to the bountiful 2018 class.
Texas was long his dream school and now he’s part of a potentially historic class in Tom Herman’s first in Austin. The RevolUTion18 is real.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Overshown told IT. “It’s a dream come true.”

How he fits at Texas: The first two clips of Overshown’s film involve him administering what I suspect were knockout blows. Guys like this are why Tampa-2/Robber hybrid coverages are going to become increasingly popular in the Big 12. He’s a violent menace in the middle of the field because of his fluidity and size. He dominates the space between the hash marks in this HS defense. At Texas he figures to be a boundary safety that can play downhill and in the box regularly supporting the run and getting involved in the blitz package. If paired with a lockdown corner he could become a very difficult +1 defender for Orlando to play around with. – IB

Coach says: Holy sh– this dude hits like a freight train. I know he is being recruited to play safety, but this dude looks to be around 6-foot-4 already and around 200 pounds, and will obviously keep growing. So my question is will he be able to stick at safety as he continues to grow or will he have to spin down to linebacker at some point? He’s tall, long, moves well, and he plays the game with bad intentions. You find a way to get guys like this on your football team and figure out the rest later on.
How this affects Texas: At 6-foot-4, 190, with 4.6 speed, he’s not your prototypical safety. Hopefully he stops growing upward, and starts filling out. Everyone wants to paint him as a future D1 linebacker, but I’m not buying that yet. The state’s stacked at DB, and he belongs in that group. He also excels on the hardwood, and I’ll go see him on Friday as they wrap up district play. He’s gotten Junior Day invites, yet is only attending UT’s. Texas probably takes two safeties in the next class. Overshown might be one. – JW
