Palmer is Day-to-Day
Senior RCB Ryan Palmer’s status (hamstring) against No. 11/12 Missouri will be a game-day decision, Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp said Monday.
Ryan Palmer remains atop this week’s depth chart but backup sophomore Curtis Brown could log his first career start for the top-ranked Longhorns.
“We have a couple of different situations we’re looking at and nothing is definite right now,” Muschamp said. “(DB coach) Duane (Akina) and I talked last night and we’re going through cut-ups right now. I wouldn’t be ready to say that (Brown will start) right now.”
Palmer tweaked his hamstring late in the second quarter during Texas’ 45-35 upset of Oklahoma. The injury occurred as RS-freshman safety Earl Thomas intercepted QB Sam Bradford’s deep ball down the left hash to set up a Longhorn FG just before halftime. Palmer has logged 19 career starts and has been credited with 16 tackles and one INT on the season.

However, Brown is one of the taller and more physical DBs (6-1, 182) in the Longhorn secondary. Coaches lauded Brown for his momentum-turning role in stopping Oklahoma’s fake punt attempt about a yard shy of the first-down marker Saturday.
“Curtis has been outstanding on special teams,” Muschamp said. “He got hurt in (August) camp. He had a hamstring injury that put him behind a little bit. He’s come out and play with physical toughness. He’s an outstanding athlete. He will definitely figure into our dime package.”
Brown has seen action in 19 games. He has 11 tackles and two PBU on the season.
