Peach Bowl Bound: Texas tops Clemson 38-24 to advance in the College Football Playoff
The Texas Longhorns are onto the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff. After dispatching the No. 12 seed Clemson Tigers by a score of 38-24 in Austin, Texas will head to Atlanta, Ga. for a round of eight battle with No. 4 seed Arizona State in the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl. That game kicks off at noon on New Year’s Day and will be televised by ESPN.

This is Texas’ first appearance in the Peach Bowl.
The Longhorns return to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the second time in the span of 30 days. Texas traveled to the home of the Atlanta Falcons on December 7 to face Georgia in the SEC Championship game, a battle the Longhorns lost in overtime 22-19.
Texas tallied 496 total yards, including 293 on the ground. Quintrevion Wisner scored two first-half touchdowns, while Jaydon Blue added two more on the ground. Quinn Ewers found Gunnar Helm just before halftime for a 19-yard score. Texas scored 10 points in the second half.
Pete Kwiatkowski’s defense was buoyed by standout performances by Colin Simmons, Vernon Broughton, Jahdae Barron, and others. The Longhorns made a goal-line stand with under 8:00 minutes left to keep the score at its final 38-24 margin. Texas held onto the ball to run out most of the clock, and Michael Taaffe delivered the final blow to end Clemson’s dying chances.

The Longhorns and the Sun Devils have battled just once in their history. Texas defeated Arizona State in the 2007 Holiday Bowl by a score of 52-34. The game is remembered by Longhorn fans for Chris Jessie’s interference with a live ball.

Other teams to advance in the College Football Playoff include No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 6 Penn State. The Fighting Irish will battle No. 2 seed Georgia in the Sugar Bowl while Penn State heads to Phoenix, Ariz. to face the No. 3 Boise State Broncos.
