Quinn Ewers named to Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2024
Texas junior Quinn Ewers is one of 35 players to be selected to the Davey O’Brien Quarterback Class of 2024 and is officially in the running for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced Tuesday. After being named a semifinalist for the award in 2023, it marks the second-consecutive season Ewers has been a candidate for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.

The Southlake, Texas, product is a third-year player who has played in and started 28 games on the Forty Acres, leading UT to 21 wins in 28 starts. His 7,045 career passing yards rank sixth all-time in Texas history, while his 51 career touchdown passes sit sixth all-time. Entering the 2024 season, Ewers was selected to preseason watch lists for the Davey O’Brien Award, Walter Camp Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Maxwell Award, Manning Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award along with being named preseason second-team All-SEC by the media and league’s coaches.
During the season, Ewers has also hauled in a plethora of accolades including SEC Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 9), Manning Award Star of the Week (Sept. 9), Reese’s Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 9), Davey O’Brien Great 8 (Sept. 9), Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week (Sept. 10) and Maxwell Award Player of the Week (Sept. 10).
In six starts this season, Ewers has guided the Longhorns to five wins, including three ranked victories – two of which were true road contests. He has completed 130-of-188 pass attempts (69 percent) for 1,389 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 231.5 yards per game. Ewers currently boasts a 19-game streak with at least one passing touchdown, dating back to the 2022 season. That streak is the longest by a Longhorn quarterback since Colt McCoy from 2007-09. In UT’s 27-24 win at No. 25/25 Vanderbilt on Oct. 26, Ewers completed a season-high 27 passes (27-of-37) for a season-high 288 yards and three touchdowns to lead Texas.
With the win against Vanderbilt at FirstBank Stadium, Ewers has won nine-straight true road games dating back to 2022, and he has thrown 18 TD passes with just three interceptions in those games. Three of the nine wins have come at top-15-ranked opponents stadiums, and in those games, he has completed 63 percent of his passes for 792 yards and eight touchdowns (0 INTs). Against No. 5/4 Georgia on Oct. 19, Ewers completed 25-of-43 pass attempts for 211 yards and two scores. In his first game back after suffering an injury vs. UTSA on Sept. 14, Ewers shined in Texas’ 34-3 win vs. No. 18/16 Oklahoma on Oct. 12, finishing 20-of-29 for 199 yards and a touchdown. He combined for two scores on the day after recording a one-yard rushing touchdown vs. the Sooners in the fourth quarter.

Following Texas’ 31-12 road win at No. 10/9 Michigan on Sept. 7, Ewers was named the Maxwell Award National Player of the Week, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Player of the Week SEC Offensive Player of the Week and the Reese’s Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week while also being named to the Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 and a Manning Star of the Week. Ewers completed 24-of-36 passing attempts (67 percent) for 256 yards and three touchdowns against the Wolverines.
Ewers is the only FBS quarterback in the country since the start of last season to throw three touchdowns without an interception against multiple AP top-10 opponents, according to ESPN Stats & Info; Ewers led Texas to a victory at Alabama last season, as well.
The junior quarterback has played a pivotal role in UT’s offense being ranked amongst the nation’s best in several categories. Texas ranks 11th nationally in completion percentage (68.7 percent), 14th in team passing efficiency (161.5), 14th in passing offense (294.8 ypg), 18th in scoring offense (37.6 ppg) and 21st in total offense (453.1 ypg). Ewers ranks 12th nationally and second in the SEC in completion percentage (69.1 percent), as well.

This week, Ewers and the Longhorns have a bye before hosting the Florida Gators at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The game will broadcast on ABC.
