Quinn Ewers named to the Davey O'Brien Award's Postseason Great 8
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Postseason Great 8 on Wednesday. The honored signal-callers were added to the list due to their exploits in the 2024 postseason.

Per the award’s release, Ewers was honored for his performance against Arizona State. Ewers was 20-for-30 for 322 yards, three passing touchdowns, an interception, and a rushing touchdown. He threw one of the most consequential touchdown passes in program history in the Peach Bowl when he connected with Matthew Golden on a 4th and 13 in overtime that kept the Longhorns’ season alive. He’d find Gunnar Helm for a touchdown on the next overtime possession and hit Golden again for the two-point conversion in the game the Longhorns won 39-38.
During the 2024 College Football Playoff, Ewers was 60-for-93 for 807 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions, plus a rushing touchdown. His final 2024 season stat line read 293-for-445 for 3472 yards and 31 touchdowns over 12 interceptions, plus two rushing touchdowns.
Ewers finishes his career third in school history in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions, and attempts. He led the Longhorns to the program’s first conference title in over a decade in 2023 as part of Texas’ last season in the Big 12. He also led Texas to the final scheduled iteration of the four-team College Football Playoff and guided the Longhorns to the 12-team edition, the only team to reach the CFP in 2023 and 2024.

His final record in a Longhorn uniform was 27-9, a win total that has him tied for fourth in school history. Ewers recently declared for the NFL draft and looks to become the first Longhorn quarterback drafted since Sam Ehlinger was picked in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Other quarterbacks named to the Postseason Great 8 were Iowa State’s Rocco Becht, Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart, Navy’s Blake Horvath, Ohio State’s Will Howard, Syracuse’s Kyle McCord, Ohio’s Parker Navarro, and Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia.
