Four Longhorns have won the Maxwell Award. Tommy Nobis earned the honor in 1965, Ricky Williams was bestowed with the Maxwell during his Heisman campaign in 1998, Vince Young won the Longhorns’ third Maxwell Award in 2005, and Colt McCoy became the fourth UT football player to win the award in 2009. All four of Nobis, Williams, Young, and McCoy have had their jersey numbers retired by the Longhorn football program.
Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. won the Maxwell Award in 2023.
Per release, semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Nov. 12, 2024, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled Nov. 26, 2024. The winners of the 88th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 12, 2024.
