WATCH: Quinn Ewers throws first touchdown at Texas
The former five-star Southlake (Texas) Carroll signal-caller and Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers made his DKR-Texas Memorial stadium debut during the Orange-White scrimmage on Saturday.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound redshirt freshman hit Isaiah Neyor with the big-time touchdown play.
A fresh start in Austin was needed, and Ewers provided a great piece of advice that he received from Sarkisian during the process, emphasizing his excitement for the future for the next few seasons.
“Yeah, for sure. Coach Sark once told me, ‘That’s why the rearview mirror is so small and the windshield is so big,’” Ewers said. “You kind of put the past behind you and just focus on what’s ahead. I’m super excited about what’s ahead for sure.”
Hudson Card and Ewers have been engaged in a quarterback battle this spring and will continue through the summer months. Both signal-callers embraced the competition, with Sarkisian having a tough decision ahead of him. The season opener is Sept. 3 against UL Monroe. The Longhorns went 5-7 last season, missing out on bowl eligibility.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian tempered expectations on the amount of plays we’ll see on Saturday night.
“And I’ll say this: Unfortunately, I wish nobody would show up with a camera and you guys wouldn’t have your phones and we wouldn’t put it on TV so that we could really show a lot of the things that we’re doing, but in this day and age everybody wants to watch and see what we’re going to do. So, we’ll probably be pretty vanilla Saturday night and it may not be as exciting for everybody. But we’ll try to go out and execute and play good football.”
